VFW Post #1873 and its auxiliaries

It’s hard to believe that the year is almost over. Have you made your New Year’s resolution yet? Can anyone out there honestly say they kept the ones (or even one) they made last year? It’s an effort in futility. Our intentions may be good, but our will power leaves something to be desired.

We have two flags left to sell at the Post for $20. Leave a message with Susan, our bartender, if you want to reserve one.

We’re having a New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31. The Post will open at 4 p.m., pot luck will be served at 5:30 p.m. until all the food is gone. Karaoke by Ralph and Dotti starts at 7 p.m. for your singing and dancing pleasure. No host bar. There will be a countdown to midnight every hour starting with the New York time. Cost is $8 per person, $4 if you bring a pot luck item. No reservations required.

All members of the community are invited to our meals and activities. Days and hours of operation are: Wednesday and Friday 5 to 7 p.m., and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to noon. And don’t forget to save your pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House and cancelled stamps for “Stamps for the Wounded.” They don’t need flag, liberty bell or presorted stamps.

Activities for the last half of December (which is “National Women’s Volleyball” Month) are:

Dec. 21 Mike & Sue’s “Italian Duo,” veggie lasagna and chicken Alfredo, veggies, Caesar salad, garlic bread, dessert

Dec. 23 Debbie’s cheesy sausage/eggs casserole, home fries, muffins, fruit

Dec. 25 Merry Christmas

Dec. 26 Susan’s fabulous hot dogs w/all the trimmings

All meals include coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. And don’t forget our $1 dogs every Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Did you know? Dartmouth, Nova Scotia prohibits citizens from throwing chickens across the road.

If you were born in December, your flower is the Narcissus and your birthstone is turquoise.
