Author’s note; Cahuilla Native Lighthouse, which was founded about 14 years ago to be a spiritual lighthouse of God’s truth – first to the Nation and then beyond, recently welcomed native son, Coach Mo Chacon. Chacon is the son of Nushune Chacon and grandson of tribal elder Nella Heredia. He coaches for Hamilton’s successful 2016 Bobcat Football team and recently went through his own spiritual awakening which he talked about as a guest speaker Oct. 1. The following are excerpts from what Coach Mo Chacon shared.

Good morning about two and a half months ago I had a real encounter with Jesus Christ.

I have been going to church all my life. When I was a kid we’d go to all these revivals on the reservation and I would think ‘oh my Lord I hated those things.’ But we always went and we were always there. We have been going to Valley Gospel since I was five. I went through that and then going through high school and then going through college and I was saved, but none of it was really real. Then it became really real a few months ago and I was thinking to myself why? Why now?

There is a scripture that talks about how you are raising your kids. Raise your kids in the church they will go back to Him. I did not appreciate that back then when I was young, but I do now and I want to thank you for that mom.

Proverbs 22:6 New King James Version (NKJV)

“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Today, I going to talk about some things God gives us.

God gives us His Love, He gives us His Grace and He gives us Authority and I am going to share some scripture:

Ephesians 2:4 English Standard Version (ESV)

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,….”

Isn’t that awesome!

1 Thessalonians 1:4 ESV

“4For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,…”

God has chosen us!

Ephesians 1:4 ESV

Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love.”

Before the foundation of the world we were Holy and blameless before Him because of His love; that is a big deal!

We love our family our wife, our kids, but if you think about it, He is an entity that does not need our love. Yet He loves you, it is a gift. He gives us love and puts us in His grace. That is another gift; He does not have to do that.

Acts 4:33 ESV

And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.”

These were the apostles, giving their testimonies of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and they in His grace. That is amazing; He just gives it to us, His Grace!

Acts 20:32 ESV

And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Through grace we are sanctified; it does not matter what we did. He gives us Love and He gives us grace.

He gives us authority:

2 Corinthians 10:4 ESV

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”

They are mountains, they are demonic powers and principalities. He has given us authority. He gives us power over them. That is like giving my daughter a shotgun. That is authority, and He has given us that.

Ephesians 6:12 ESV

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Luke 10:17 ESV

“The Return of the Seventy-Two”

“The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”

He gives us love. He gives us grace, and He gives us authority that is a really big deal. I was thinking, why does He give us these things? I think it is not just because He loves us, I believe it is deeper that. It is a deeper connection.

You know the Spaniard in the movie the Princes Bride? On his journey he gets lost, his friends found him back at the Giants tavern. When he was asked what he was doing there and he said he was told if he gets lost he needed to go back to the beginning. So we will go back to the beginning.

Genesis 1:1-2 ESV

“The Creation of the World”

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

So God Created the Heavens and the Earth. What did that really mean? What did God Created the Heavens and the Earth mean? Think about it. He was the only thing that was there, He always was. He made creation out of Himself. What was even more extraordinary is He first crafted a void out of Himself and then everything after that He just spoke it into existence, it just happened. He created the heavens and earth out of Himself!

This is where we come into play:

Genesis 1:26 ESV

“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So WE are Created in His image. Again what did He created us out of? Himself! I want to get that point across. You are a part of God. Why then do people do bad things? He loved us so much, He gave us free will. Why does He allow bad things to happen? It is because man has chosen that path to sin. He has given us free will. We are given free will to *choose our path (*Whether or not to accept His gift to bring us back to Himself by the sacrifice that Jesus made). We are not robots; we are not slaves. It does not matter what we have done, what path we followed; WE are ALL Still A PART of GOD and He is a part of us. For me, that put a different spin on things.

Sometimes I think, Why does he give us those things even when we do not deserve it? It is just like why we give our kids good things, even when they may not (have) deserved or if they are in trouble we give them a pass, it is because those children are a part of us. We are a part of God; we are His children.

I think that a big misconception is, it is not that He is just a generous God, because He is. He is not just handing gifts out to strangers. He is handing gifts out to His children we are a part of Him.

The Holy Spirit is the helper. He has always been there, He set on our hearts. You can feel Him. The Holy Spirit is God, Jesus is God and God is God. When we get discourage, downtrodden and when things go wrong; one day you are having the greatest day of your life and then bad things happen and it is the worst day. It does not matter because you are a part of Him.

It does not matter because He has overcome the world. That is what is hard. We want to do things our way, the way we see things; because we are selfish with ourselves, we want things our way and it is hard to give that up.

When I coach, I tell my players; Do exactly what I say and I will put you in the right spot for the right play. But I cannot play the plays for you. If things do not work out you are off the hook, I am responsible. You’re off the hook you are free to play.

It is the same with God. He is a good God and He knows what to do. If we allow God to work in us, give up our selfishness, follow Him and we are off the hook. Remember we are a powerful being.

Deuteronomy 32:30 Living Bible (TLB)

How could one single enemy chase a thousand of them, And two put ten thousand to flight, Unless their Rock had abandoned them, Unless the Lord had destroyed them?”

Together when we pray and come into agreeance, we are stronger, we can put to flight our enemy. Not just by 1,000 but by the 10,000s. When the enemy throws his demonic artillery at you by the tens of thousands and he is to trying to kill you and your family, remember the victory has already been won. WE have been given Authority over them. He cannot win in the end. Even if we die, we will go to heaven.

Remember you are already apart of God and He is a part of YOU. You do not have to walk in to fear or walk in doubt. Remember He has given us His love, grace and authority and He does not give out those gifts out lightly. It is like Satan is tied up and you are given a bat and told fight Satan. The battle has already been won.

We need to remember that. You are not a spirit of loneliness or despair you are God’s Child.

We are a part of Him and He is a part of you! AMEN!
