The 15th Hole Bar & Grill, located within the gates of the Rancho California RV Resort in Aguanga, provides a pleasant dining experience.
The restaurant, located at 45525 State Route 79 South in Aguanga, has reopened under new management, new owners and a new name. The facility had been sitting vacant for the last four years, and recently, extensive renovations to the building itself were done to bring it up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The eatery may be within the confines of the Rancho California RV Resort, but it is also open to the public.
According to a review on social media, “The food is very good, so far I have tried a breakfast and the fried chicken special on Thursday evening. My wife at the time had their cheeseburger which was excellent. Also, my fried chicken was very nicely done, and I considered it to be a bargain, especially for the area. I highly recommend if you are in this area that you stop by and give this place a try.”
The grounds are beautiful and carefully tended. The building itself is situated on the banks of a peaceful pond, and they have a spacious patio available for outdoor enjoyment. Inside, the open dining room boasts several TVs with different sporting events playing on each one. Patrons can select a comfortable table or scoot up to a small bar to enjoy the offerings.
The food is reasonably priced, good quality and the presentation is carried out with much attention to detail. My order of deep-fried zucchini sticks was perfectly prepared, with the sticks carefully placed on a bed of sweet shredded lettuce and generously sprinkled with coarsely grated Parmesan cheese. The ranch dressing that accompanied the appetizer was good quality and creamy.
The staff is helpful, pleasant and efficient. Jayme Millslagle, a waitress at the establishment, said, “Everyone that comes in is so nice, it’s like we are a big family. It’s a great place to work with great customers, food and friends.”
Owners Wendy and Greg Gonsalves are not strangers to the restaurant business. They operate the Warner Springs Ranch Golf Grill, as well as Poncho Villas in Julian, which they have run successfully for over 25 years. The theme with all the establishments is the same – great food, practical choices, good value and excellent wait staff.
Besides a menu featuring burgers, appetizers, deserts, salads and soups, the restaurant offers bloody marys, mimosas, draft and bottled beer and good selection of wines. Breakfast fare is well represented with eggs Benedict, omelets, breakfast burritos, pancakes, French toast and even biscuits and gravy. Weekly dinner specials include fried chicken, prime rib and barbecue. Mexican specialties are also offered – tacos, burritos, enchiladas and chili rellenos. Currently, they are offering a special on Julian pies – $2 a slice or $10 for a whole pie. There is something to please everyone.
Getting to the 15th Hole Bar & Grill is somewhat of a challenge to the uninitiated. The RV resort has an entrance on state Route 79 South, just south of the state Route 371 junction. The long paved driveway winds along the hillside and comes into the resort through a sandy wash. To enter the restaurant, visitors must first stop at the guard shack at the community’s gates. The good-natured attendant will cheerfully direct guests to the correct building, which is just past the gates on the left.
The eatery has been open and serving hungry patrons since Jan. 1. An official grand opening is planned for mid-February, but in the meantime, they are will be hosting a Super Bowl party Sunday, Feb. 4.
The 15th Hole Bar & Grill’s hours are Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Reservations may be made for busy times or large parties.
